I got to photograph sweet Aidan twice this month! The first time we did a family photography session in the park and just last week I documented Aidan’s 1st birthday party at YongSuSan in Korea Town :) His mom (with the help of Sally at Harvest Event and Design) did an AMAZING job decorating for the party! The Dr. Seuss theme was SO adorable and very unique… there were thoughtful little touches absolutely everywhere. The family also provided a clown, balloon artist and face painter for the kids which kept them all thoroughly entertained while Event Plus kept the adults entertained with games of their own. The MC from Event Plus was an amazing addition, I never realized what a huge impact having an entertaining host made on an event! Here are a few of my favorite photos from Aidan’s over the top party… enjoy!!

With summer coming to a close and the holiday season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to  announce the return of our very popular holiday mini-sessions! This is by far our most popular event and the slots tend to book up fast so if you are interested in booking a session don’t wait too long to pick up the phone and reserve your time :)

We photographed Graham’s 1st birthday last weekend at Maggiano’s at the Grove and wow was it a fun celebration! Graham’s mom did an amazing job at decorating the party room and all the kids were so well behaved throughout the entire afternoon. The fortune telling ritual is always the most fun part of the party and dad was particularly excited when Graham picked the basketball :) Here are a few of our favorite images from Graham’s party!

We love working with this family, they are so cool and the kids are awesome and so hysterical – we captured their images earlier this year when I met and photographed Baby August and his big bro Luca and had so much fun. Now they have had us come and capture August’s 1st birthday party! Mom and Dad did such an amazing job putting together the gorgeous celebration at the Century Ballroom in Culver City – it was filled with laughter and friends and family all of whom seem to clearly adore each other. And check out the Grandpas – are they not the most well-dressed and dapper Grandpas around?! Love it! The food and decor was beautiful, elegant and so scrumptious! It was obvious all the kids were having a total blast – from the caricature sketch artist to cake time! Thanks for having us there to capture it :)

This family and their story is extremely special and I was fortunate enough to be able to capture a very important and exciting day in their lives.  I figured Everett’s story was best told by his mom so (with her permission) I’ve pasted a part of an email I received from her back in February which details Everett and his family’s journey…

“My husband, Zac, and I have been married for five years.  Our son, Everett, was born unexpectedly at 25 weeks gestation (6.5 months) on October 10, 2009… I went to the hospital that morning to be evaluated for what I believed was back pain, only to find out that I was 4cm dilated and actively contracting.  Doctors did everything they could to stop my labor, but nothing worked.  At 8:05pm, Everett was delivered via C-section.  We had no idea what to expect.

Happily, he made it through the first few days with minimal complications.  But in November, he contracted H1N1 and things went downhill from there.  By December, he was experiencing problems with his bowels and had to be transferred via helicopter from the hospital where he was born in San Luis Obispo (which is 30 minutes from our house) to CHLA for emergency surgery.  He had surgery December 8, 2009 to remove part of his bowel.  He ended up with something called an ileostomy, which is where the bowel exits out the abdominal wall instead of going the normal way.  Stool is collected in a bag attached to the skin.  This allowed his bowel to rest and heal from a major infection and several perforations.  Happily, almost two weeks ago, Everett was able to undergo surgery to reverse the ileostomy.  It was a huge success and now he is learning to eat from a bottle and is functioning as any normal baby should.  Once he is able to take full feedings, he will be able to come home.

He’s been hospitalized for almost five months.  We’ve been separated from him for almost three months.  I visit him two to three days during the week, and then my husband and I both visit him every weekend.  The four hour drive is daunting but we are glad he’s at such a wonderful hospital.  Other than our parents, none of our family or friends have been able to see him…. It is going to be a super emotional day for all of us…and we just can’t wait to get there!  I’m glad you are going to be there to document it all for us.”

That day I witnessed many “firsts” for Everett’s parents… The first time they got to him without having to wearing a hospital gown, the first time they put him in a car seat, the first they introduced him to his family, and last but not least… the first time they got to take him home. It was a such an emotional day filled with joyous anticipation, cheerful hellos, and tearful goodbyes… I am SO lucky to have been a part of it.

We had such a blast photographing Lucas’ 1st birthday at Gyenari in Culver City. Not only do we LOVE Lucas and his parents but the Gyenari owners and staff were an absolute dream to work with and the food and atmosphere was incredible. As you can see from the photos, Lucas’ mom did an amazing job at planning his party. Every little detail was thought out and the guests really enjoyed the food, ambiance, and entertainment… particularly the balloon artist! I hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed capturing them!
